THE SALVATION ARMY:

Sheboygan, Wis., - The summer heated-up with the public phase of The Salvation Army’s Capital Campaign. The fundraiser was kicked off with a grill-out to raise awareness for the renovation and expansion of the building at 710 Pennsylvania Avenue. Major donors, corporations and area businesses were invited to the presentation, lunch and tour.

Sheboygan business leaders Richard Bemis, Barbara Knauf, and Janice Homiston are leaders of the Capital Campaign, “Agents of Hope…Building Compassion.”

Richard Bemis said that the expansion of the facility underscores the continued and growing commitment of The Salvation Army to meet the growing needs of the Sheboygan community.

The $3.5 million project will include relocating and expanding of the food pantry, the free health clinic and adding on to the overcrowded homeless shelter. The expansion will cover 16,500 square feet on the east side of the present building.

Major Kim Hellstrom, Co-Commanding Officer of the Salvation Army in Sheboygan, stressed the urgency of the construction project due to dramatic increases in demands for basic human services within the region.

The Army reported over $950,000 in gifts and commitments to date. Today’s announcement marks the beginning of the community phase of this campaign. It will give the people of Sheboygan and the surrounding region an opportunity to support this wonderful community asset, said Major Hellstrom. She expressed her appreciation for the early leadership commitments from corporations and many individual area philanthropists.

“There are so many people hurting and in need and not a lot of kindness in this world but The Salvation Army is one of those agencies that has compassion. We need this new facility to reach out to more people,” said Major Hellstrom.

The Salvation Army will continue their capital campaign until the $3.5 goal is reached. More information about The Salvation Army can be found at http://www.sasheboygan.org/, and contributions can be mailed to The Salvation Army, PO Box 1207, Sheboygan, Wisconsin 53082-1207.
